alaska: the last frontier

wow, alaska seems really interesting:
1. Alaska is also the only state to allow legal possession of marijuana: an adult may possess four ounces for personal use.

2. it is twice as big as texas

3. it has 3,5 million lakes over the size of 20 acres!

4. 82% of Alaskans are Christians. 5% of christians are mormon

5. If the state's westernmost point were superimposed on San Francisco, California, its easternmost point would be in Jacksonville, Florida.

6. Alaska was not granted statehood until January 3, 1959.

7. 75% of Alaska residents are white. 19% are American Indian or Alaska Native, the largest proportion of any state.

8. Its per-capita GSP for 2005 was $60,079, 3rd in the nation. Alaska's economy relies heavily on petroleum extraction, with more than 80% of the state's revenues derived from this industry.

9. while the cost of living has gone down, it is still one of the highest in the country.

10. Alaska has the lowest individual tax burden in the US[23], and is one of only six states with no state sales tax

11. The state capital, Juneau, is not accessible by road, which has spurred several debates over the decades about moving the capital to a city on the road system.
